Apple iCloud is widely recognized as one of the best cloud storage systems out there. With iCloud, you can sync your mails, Calendars, Contacts, music, data and settings on the cloud. In this article we discuss why it’s so important to backup the data on your iCloud and how to download iCloud backup files.
When you have an iCloud account, all the data on your iPhone or iPad gets synced on your iCloud with ease, without any extra effort from your end. The system is simple and intuitive. You will have access to 5GB of free iCloud storage, if you need more, then you’ll need to upgrade your iCloud account.
Why backup data on iCloud? You should back up data on iCloud for the simple reason that there is always a chance of your iPhone or iPad getting lost, stolen or perhaps damaged. In that case backing up the data on iCloud makes a lot of sense. The backup happens every time the device is on and there is an internet connection.
So here’s the question, how can you retrieve the data that has been backed up on iCloud when you want to retrieve some crucial information for various reasons? Maybe your iPhone has been damaged, or you have already sold your iPhone and have bought a new device, which could be an iPhone or an Android.
There are essentially four ways to download your iCloud backup files. We discuss each of them in detail.
Method #1: Download iCloud backup from iCloud.com
The easiest way to retrieve iCloud backup files is to get them from the iCloud website, www.icloud.com. It’s pretty simple, just log in on the website using your iCloud credentials such as the Apple ID and password and get the files you want directly.
The advantage of retrieving your iCloud backup in this manner is that this is a very secure way to access your data and there is no risk of a data breach.
However, the problem is you only have access to a limited range of data on the iCloud website. You can only download your notes, contacts, photo library, calendars and settings.
There are so many other things you will need to download such as your Whatsapp data, call history and photo stream. There is no way to retrieve such information from the iCloud website.
Method #2: Retrieve iCloud backup through iCloud Control Panel
You can access all the data backed up on iCloud and manage it through the iCloud Control Panel. The software can be downloaded from Apple Store. You can start using the iCloud Control Panel by logging in with your Apple ID and password, and download iCloud backup from it directly.
This is a relatively easy way to retrieve the backup files, but as with the first method, you can only retrieve a limited range of files such as photos, contacts and settings. You can’t retrieve all the information that has been backed up on iCloud.
Method #3: Download iCloud Backup Through Dr.Fone for iOS
The problem with the two methods listed above is that they do not allow you to retrieve all types of data backed up on iCloud. For this, you will need to download Wondershare Dr.Fone. Dr.Fone is one of the best iPhone data recovery tools available in the market.
dr.fone – iOS Recover allows you to access all files backed up on iCloud the easy way. It supports as many as 16 different file types ranging from the standard Contacts, Messages, and Photos to WhatsApp Messages, call history, Safari bookmarks and more. Dr.Fone also retrieves camera roll, voicemail, photo stream, voice memo, videos and documents from iCloud. Indeed, Dr.Fone retrieves almost all files on iCloud, quickly and easily.
So why do you need dr.fone?
Let’s say your iPhone or iPad has been smashed or broken into. The data has been lost due to a jailbreak or an update that has failed. Perhaps your iPhone has been stolen. Your iPhone or iPad has been affected by malware. Maybe you have lost all the data after restoring the device to factory settings and want it back. Or, you deleted some of the data on your iPhone or iPad completely accidentally. Okay, you need to transfer the data on your iPhone to an Android device or to another iPhone or iPad. Here’s the worst case scenario – the device has been locked and you have lost the password. iTunes does not recognize you.
In each of the scenarios listed above, Dr.Fone saves your life by retrieving all the data backed up on iCloud safely and efficiently.
- dr.fone performs iOS data recovery in two ways – it does so from the iPhone or iPad itself, or from an iTunes backup. You will need to install Dr.Fone on your computer and connect the device to the computer as well using a USB cable.
- dr.fone requires your device to be in the DFU mode (Device Firmware Update). Doing so would prevent its operating system from loading. Dr.Fone guides you through the entire process of the data recovery and as long as you follow the simple instructions, you shouldn’t have a problem with it.
- dr.fone connects with the device and scans all the files on it in order to retrieve the deleted files. It recovers several different types of items that were deleted from the camera roll, photo library, photo stream, calendar, notes, MMS messages, contacts, SMS messages, WhatsApp attachments, call history, reminders, voice memos, Safari bookmarks and more. It scans all the files and tells you exactly how many it has managed to retrieve.
Here’s a step-by-step guideline to use dr.fone – iOS recover:
#1. Download Dr.Fone Toolkit for iOS and install it on your computer.
#2. Launch Dr.Fone on your computer and choose the mode “Recover from iCloud Backup Files” under “Recover” Option. Here, enter the log-in data related to your iCloud account information. Dr.Fone does not hold on to any of this information and takes your security very seriously.
#3. Now, all the backup files on iCloud will be displayed to you. You can select the ones that you want and select “Download”. You can select the files to recover by type as well as individually. This saves time and allows you to get you to want much faster. You won’t have to scan files that are not relevant to you. Click on “Scan” for the scanning of the backup files to start.
#4. The scanning takes a few minutes to be completed. Once it stops, you can then preview all the data such as messages, contacts and photos, and check them one by one. Click on the button “Recover to Computer” or “Recover to Device” in order to save the data either on the computer or the device with a single click. This should be enough to retrieve the iCloud backup files.
We have discussed the four ways using which you can retrieve the iCloud backup. The traditional methods such as downloading from the iCloud website or using the iCloud control panel are not the best options available for this as they only download a limited range of files.
That’s why you are advised to go with dr.fone Toolkit – iOS Recover. Dr.Foneallow you to download almost all types of files on iCloud including call records, WhatsApp messages, which you cannot access through the first two methods.
Let us summarize some of the advantages and disadvantages of the two products. dr.fone – iOS Data Recovery has the following points in its favor…
- It allows you to select the specific data that you want to recover and then to save it on your PC.
- It supports every common data type that you would need.
- It restores 16 file types on iCloud backup, including Notes, Contacts and Messages directly to your iPhone or iPad.
- It is easy to use and very secure.
There are no real drawbacks to this product except that it is not free and the trial version does not really allow you to do much.
The thing about Wondershare’s products is that you don’t realize how much you need them until you actually use them. They make it easy for you to download iCloud backup, safely and efficiently, and do it in quick time too. dr.fone – Backup & Restore (iOS) is also amazing program which can Restore Backup from iCloud to new iOS device with ease.
