It is possible to take a backup of your WhatsApp message to your email account. It is not exactly a direct process as it involves taking a backup of your conversations and then sending it as a text file just for preservation and viewing.
Step 1. Open WhatsApp on your Android Samsung device. Go to Settings and select Chats and Calls option.
Step 2. Tap on Chat History option and then select Email Chat. A message will be displayed on the screen asking you whether you will back up the attachments as well with the messages or not. Decide and select accordingly. Attachments will make the file a bit heavy to transfer.
Step 3. Remember, the messages are always backed up as .txt file. Then a screen will appear asking you to select your email address. Once that is done, the backup is also done. In future, you can go to your email inbox and find the messages to read.
Take a note of the fact that the conversations whose backup you are taking in your email inbox, they cannot be restored and there is a maximum limit of transferring up to 10000 messages in one transfer. So, this is clearly not a convenient choice that you should opt for.
WhatsApp has included a backup option quite recently that allows you to take a backup of your conversations on a regular interval which you can set yourself. It can be done manually as well as automatically.
Step 1. Launch WhatsApp on your Android Samsung Device. Tap on Settings.
Step 2. Go to Chats And Calls option. Then Move to Chat backup.
Step 3. Tap on Back Up button. It will ask you to select whether you want to backup manually every time or you want to select a default interval to take backup automatically. Select that and the backup is done.
Though this might seem to be a very convenient way but it is not at all reliable. Many bugs are reported in this method and they are still in review. Moreover, the backup files are valid only for 7 days from the date of last save. You need to import your chat history before it becomes invalid.
WhatsApp also comes with an option which lets you backup your WhatsApp messages on your Google drive.
Step 1. Launch WhatsApp on your Android Samsung device. Go to Options and tap on Settings.
Step 2. Go to Chats And Calls and tap on Chat Backup.
Step 3. Then Tap on Google Drive Settings and then go to Account to link your existing Google Drive with it. Once done, tap on Back up to Google Drive. Here you will find an option where you can select whether you want to do it manually every time or set a fixed interval to do the backup job automatically.
It has several disadvantages. When you search for a particular term in Google Drive, it lists the WhatsApp backup file and shows the conversation which has the search term which is totally undesirable. Thus, it becomes a mess. It does not work without the internet. It has no option for selective recovery and many more drawbacks.
So, as you can see all the three above stated process of backing up your WhatsApp messages from your Android Samsung Smartphone have some flaws and not the most reliable way of doing the job.
