In the left side column of the starting window, please click "Photos" to bring up a new window, which shows you Camera Roll, Photo Library, photo albums, and Photo Stream (if you're using Photo Stream) on the right side.
You can click Camera Roll, Photo Library or Photo Stream to bring up photos respectively. Then you can select the photos you want to transfer and click "Export". Then you will need to find a place on the local hard drive of your Mac to save your exported photos.
